Wedding Customs

Following are the wedding events in the chronological order.

Grand welcome on Arrival
A royal welcome awaits the guests at the arrival in Rajasthan with decorated elephants and trumpeters.
The guests are further honored by applying tilak (A red color mark is applied in the center of forehead to honor the guests).
Aarti is performed (by a tiered small oil lit lamps). Further the guests are garlanded with fresh flowers garland.
Haldi and mehendi (Beauty enhancement sessions)

Mehandi event is celebrated like a festival with women folk singing and dancing. On the eve of the marriage, the female friends and relatives apply turmeric and other herbal paste on the bride's body, to bring out the glow in her complexion.
After this professional heena artists painstakingly work out the intricate details and beautiful designs on the bride's hands and feet. The designs are symbolic of local beliefs and rituals.

The mehendi celebration is filled with fun and enjoyment as the family members and friends gather to celebrate this lovely occasion.

 

Sangeet (Music fiesta)

A fun filled musical function is organized where the bride, groom and their family and friend are invited by the professional dancers to dance along with them on the beautifully choreographed traditional folk dances and contemporary music. This is the most enjoyable events of the wedding and usually start late at night and goes on till wee hours of morning. 
Instrumental : Algoja, Satara, Murla, Nad, Poongi, Shehnai, Kartaal or Morchang
Vocal : World famous Langa bandhu.
Dance : Kachhi Ghodi, Kalbeliya, Kathputli, Terahtaali, Bhavai, Chari, gair, ghoomar

Arrival of groom and his family with royal procession- Barat

An elaborate royal procession called the barat is formed by the relatives and friends from the groom side. All the guests assemble at Palace hall, where welcome drink is served. A royal procession begins to form and from here the barat proceeds towards to brides place where wedding ceremony will take place. The royal procession is a magnificent spectacle; it unveils the majesty and grandeur of elephants, the powerful elegance of horses and the charm of desert ship camels. The impressive line up of the majestic animals is tastefully decorated with glittering ornaments and embroidered velvet cloths. The grand regal procession is recreated with elephants, lancers on horses, chariots, camels, torch men etc.

The folk musicians, dancers and performers form the integral part of the procession.
Rose petals and attar (rose water) is sprinkled all during the progress of the procession, followed by Dhol/ Nagada (traditional drums used for all the auspicious occasions).

The procession finally reaches the venue of wedding where the Palace band welcomes them; the guests are then ushered into the splendidly decorated wedding venue.

Royal welcome of groom, his family and friends

The guests are received at the gate and welcome is accorded to them befitting royal clan by Rajasthani women with belles sprinkling flower petals lavishly on the guests.
The welcome starts with the guests being received by an elaborately decorated procession of Elephants, camels, horses with men holding flags, men holding Mashal (lit torches).
This procession escorts them to the main entrance. The entire area is decorated with special Rangoli (geometrical patterns and motifs made by using color powder and flower petals) on floor, rose laid pathways, flowers, Red Carpet, old drums and grand trumpet announcing the arrival of guests.

The whole atmosphere is like a dream setting. The guests are further honored by applying tilak (A red or maroon color round mark applied with a finger in the center of forehead to honor the guests).
Loud drum and trumpet are played to announce the arrival of guests. Aarti is performed (by a tiered small oil lit lamps). Further the guests are garlanded with fresh flowers garland.
To welcome the guests there is a big group of folk performers which includes, a group of men each playing different folk musical instrument of Rajasthan in synchronized symphony and on this music performs a group of Rajasthani folk women dancers all wearing different colorful ethnic costumes.
Also there is a group of procession musicians and escort the guests to their seating venue, under the Royal Umbrella where they are served Welcome Drinks.
Thus every guest witnesses a saluting welcome in the backdrop of the magnificent façade of the palace.

Jaimala

In this hindu ritual of jaimala, the bride and groom put fresh flower garland around each other as a sign of life long relationship and acceptance of wedlock.  The place where the wedding ceremony is held is a colorful and beautifully decorated mandap or canopy.

Circling divine fire (Phera)

The wedding ceremony takes place in front of the sacred fire in the mandap, which is a witness to the wedding ceremony. Bride and the groom are seated in front of the holy fire and the priest recites various mantras in Sanskrit from Vedas. According to the hindu religion, fire is considered auspicious and the sustainer of the life.
The couple and the family members give offerings into the holy fire as the priest directs them to do. The couple takes the seven steps together around the fire exchanging the vows of the duty, love, loyalty, respect, understanding and a successful union.
The Bride and the groom take seven steps around the sacred fire representing divinity, and vowing devotion and love for each other and agreeing to take care of each other and stand by each other in all circumstances.

Exchange of marriage vows

The seven steps affirm the vows of the couple.
The vows are as follows:

  1. to earn and provide a living for their household or the family, and avoiding those things that may harm them.
  2. to build their physical, mental and spiritual powers and to lead a healthy lifestyle.
  3. To earn and increase their wealth by rightweous and proper means.
  4. To acquire knowledge, happiness and harmony by mutual love, respect, understanding and faith.
  5. To have children for whom they will be responsible and blessed with healthy, righteous and brave children.
  6. To take self control and longetivity.
  7. To be true to each other, loyal and remain life long companions by this wedlock.

Seeking blessing of god
After the wedding ceremony couple seek the blessings of God and pray for the healthy and joyous life.
 
Vidai (bride bidding farewell to her family)

After the ceremony the bride formally leaves for her new home. This is the most emotional moment of any Indian wedding, when the bride takes leave of all her family members to start a new life.

Royal procession-Barat

The royal Barat will be a long decorated procession accompanied by decorated elephants, camels and horses, fire eaters, traditional folk dancers and singers, groom will be on the jewelled elephant with family and friends in antique cars or bagghis, its customizable so the more you desire the bigger and more royal the procession will look like!

Wedding ceremony performed by a priest

Here we give you the option of choosing the priest for your wedding, however we also provide the service of arranging one for you who is master of Vedas and sankrit hymns and will perform all rituals according to customs.

Mehndi / Henna

As a must ritual in Indian wedding for women, henna will be applied on the bride’s hands and feet as well as her friends and relatives’ the day before the wedding. The designs are varied from peacocks to flowers

Fireworks

A special occasion needs special fireworks. Beautiful colored patterns of fireworks will decorate the sky behind your wedding scene making your big night even more spectacular.

DAY-1
ArrivalSamode palace
Arrival at the palace/fort on camel carts, horse baggis/vintage cars (many options) accompanied by a local band and torch bearers. A royal welcome on arrival
with traditional aarti, tilak , garlands, and showering of rose petals.
Evening Options:

Dinner at the poolside and a dance floor in the palace courtyard .Traditional Rajasthani folk singers set the festive mood.Bar-be-que dinner amidst sand dunes. Venue transformed into a royal camp with candles, gaslights and lanterns. Demonstration of flaming tent-pegging by horsemen. Bonfires and marquees complete the festivities.
DAY-2
Lunch
In a typical village setup with juttiwalas, potters, churiwalas, mehendiwalas adding to the ambience.

Evening
Traditional turbans will be distributed to the guests who will lead the procession with torch bearers, horses, jewelled elephants and camel carts.

The guests will be welcomed with a showering of flower petals, aarti and garlands.

A stage is set for the bride and groom on the terrace. Formal sit down dinner in traditional Rajasthani style will be served. The wedding ceremony would be followed by a spectacular display of fireworks.

DAY-3
Sightseeing and shopping trips can be organized. A desert safari with lunch can be arranged for the guests as well.
